Great Things Coming

Yeah, it’s been awhile since I had enough time to get on here.

I said it. Moving on.

This morning, I came into work and started unlocking the labs like any other Monday. I didn’t expect today to be any different from my usual work day. I especially didn’t expect to find an incredible movement among Methodists in New York and Connecticut regarding marriage equality and I most certainly did not expect to nearly be moved to tears from reading about it.

What I’m talking about is the We Do! campaign. It’s a movement of Methodist clergy, laity, and whole congregations going against the anti-gay legislation set inside their book of doctrine and law. This wonderful group of people (over 800!) is setting out and trying to change the language in The Book of Discipline to include gays in their ministry, specifically in the area of marriage equality.

The entire movement is headed by Rev. Sara Lamar-Sterling, who boldly proclaims that ‎”all people are created in God’s image; all are sacred. God’s love is not discriminatory, or selective; it does not include some, and exclude others. It is for all.”
Now that sounds like the message of the Gospel to me. I love that We Do! is starting to get some media attention, and I really hope that it starts spreading across the rest of the US.

You can read more about it here
And here’s an interview with Rev. Lamar-Sterling by John Shore, an author I often reference.

I think this is becoming the new wave of mainstream Christianity, and I hope more people get on board.

Edit: I’m dedicating this post to the memory of Jamie Hubley, a gay Canadian high school sophomore who recently committed suicide  to avoid the taunting and bullying he experienced at school.

Things are changing, Jamie; I hope one day no one will have to fear for their school/work day.

We shouldn’t have to hear so much of these tragic stories.

Let’s get things changed.
